It's hard to imagine that soft water has such great power. Thick steel plates, hammers and axes are cut like tofu in front of it. It has an image name, water jet. What makes ordinary soft water so powerful?
Looking at the water knife alone, it is actually very simple. It is to first increase the pressure of water to the high pressure, usually above 200 MPa, and then shoot it out in a very small nozzle. At this time, the water has strong power and can be used for cutting all kinds of metal materials. Because it is a kind of cold cutting, and it will not produce new harmful substances during cutting. At the same time, water can also take away a large amount of heat, so it is widely used in the cutting industry.
At present, the highest water jet pressure in the world can reach 600 MPa. In fact, this technology was first used for mine mining. In 1936, scientists in the former Soviet Union and the United States pressurized ordinary water, and the pressurized water became a high-pressure water jet. In 1950, Franz, a scientist, tried to flush water out of a very small nozzle. This high-pressure water jet can already be used to cut wood, but it has not yet begun to be used on a large scale.
In the 1980s, on this basis, Dr. hashish added garnet to the water knife, which is also known as sanding water knife. The power of sanding water jet is greatly increased, which greatly improves the cutting speed and thickness of water jet. It is also used to cut glass, metal, concrete and so on.
A few years later, in 1983, the world's first real sanding water knife was born and soon put into commercial projects. Aerospace was the first industry to use sanding water knife.
After the new century, the water jet has developed rapidly in the cutting and processing industry, including 3-axis water jet and 4-axis water jet. 5-axis water jet knives began to appear and tend to be mature. Moreover, because it is cold cutting and will not change the physical and chemical properties of materials, it has been widely used. Nowadays, water jet has been widely used in many industries such as glass, ceramics, metal, stone, composite materials and so on.
